How Daily News works

Our editorial policy, in plain language.

Where the stories come from

Each day we search the web for the stories that multiple independent outlets are covering. A story that several unrelated newsrooms report on the same day is treated as a hot topic. We aim to publish 2 stories a day across world news, India, business, technology, sports, entertainment, science and clearly-labelled unconfirmed reports.

How the writing works

We do not republish other people's articles. Instead, a local language model (llama3.2:latest) first reads the coverage and reduces it to a list of bare facts. It then writes our article from that fact list alone, without access to the original wording. Facts are not copyrightable; the phrasing used to express them is, so we never carry it over.

Every draft is measured against the sources it came from. If more than 0.4 of its five-word sequences match a source, or if any verbatim run is too long, the draft is thrown away and rewritten from scratch. Direct quotations are converted into indirect speech.

What we will not publish

Human oversight

Automated checks decide what is safe enough to publish automatically. Anything that trips a check is held in a review queue for a human editor rather than being published. Rejected drafts are kept internally so decisions can be audited.

Corrections

We summarise other people's reporting, so errors can propagate. If you believe a story is wrong, unfair, or that we have overstepped on your copyright, tell us and we will correct or remove it.
